Track spotlights for living walls: selection and layout

Track lighting allows several light sources to be positioned and, depending on the model, aimed at a living wall. Start with the wall and its plants: dimensions, foliage depth, daylight and available mounting points. For landscape professionals and homeowners, this information is more useful than a context-free watts-per-square-metre rule.

Check track compatibility

Spotlight adapters and tracks must be compatible under their manufacturers’ instructions, including mounting, power supply and controls. Two products described as track lighting are not necessarily compatible. Ask the installer to check the support and electrical installation before extending a system.

Plan setback and aiming

Draw the wall, leaf depth and possible track positions. Consider its upper, middle and lower areas and shadows cast by the plants. Setback and spacing depend on the beam and the project; a single distance cannot replace a layout study. Check glare from seating and circulation areas too.

Adjust and verify

Record positions, settings and operating hours. PPFD at the leaves requires a suitable sensor; a lux meter does not directly measure PPFD. Targets and daily lighting duration depend on the species and daylight contribution. Review the setup after pruning, furniture changes or seasonal changes.

Prepare your enquiry

Send dimensioned plans, photographs, intended plants, available setback and cable-routing constraints. Indicate whether you are a landscape professional, designer, building manager or homeowner. Product selection and the scope of the work can then be discussed for the actual site.
